Voyage of the Damned

So Air NewZealand cancelled our flight around 7PM, they didn’t use any form of communication to tell us – I found out when I tried to check in at 10:00PM, the alternative offered had us arriving at Wellington at 9:00PM, not exactly ideal. Hung on the phone for 3 hours waiting whilst watching the last available seats on the earlier flight slowly tick down to zero.

So off we went on the coach trip for 7 hours. First stop was the Huka falls. Not high but boy that’s a lot of water to push through a narrow gap

Note the rain adding to the water volume

Next up was a lunch stop in a one horse town , Taihape, where the horse had left some time ago. Still the Subway provided some sustenance – the town’s claim to fame was it’s the gumboot capital of New Zealand

Past lakes and over hills for a few more hours and then – Wellington!

Hotel is right in the middle of the city, at the bottom of the cable car. Check in the usual farce but then later we went out for an evening with Craig McMillan (you can look him up), a few beers and snacks and back to the hotel.

Time in the hotel not wasted, joined the Flamingo rental club so we can ride pink scooters everywhere in town and booked tickets to see Ed Sheeran in Melbourne at the MCG.
